Fuel Up To Play Assembly:

May 15^th Fuel Up to Play 60 Motivational Assembly - featuring the Seattle Seahawks!

As you may know, Discovery’s P.E. Department received a 2012-2013 Fuel up to Play 60 grant to help promote healthy eating and physical activity. By receiving this grant, Discovery, along with a number of other FUTP60 grant recipients in the state of Idaho, was entered into a drawing to receive a motivational assembly with the Seattle Seahawks. And as I’m sure your child has mentioned, Discovery was chosen to receive this assembly!! We are the only school in Idaho to host this event for 2012-2013! However, due to time constraints from the Seahawks’ busy schedule there is just ONE assembly scheduled. With nearly 600 students and staff members in attendance, coupled with our limited gym space, we are asking for your cooperation and understanding that this special assembly is for students only. We would also like to encourage the students to wear Seahawks gear/colors (blue and green) or Discovery Spirit shirts on the 15^th.

Life Cycle Presentations

Today the students finished their group presentations!  We invited Ms. Unger's class over to watch our presentations.  Our students were amazing.. showing no fear to present in front of 50 kids.  The audience had the opportunity to provide compliments for each team.

Camp Learned A-Lot!

Who:  All first grade students at Discovery Elementary

What:  A great week of camping in the classroom.  Activities 

 include arts/crafts, songs, stories, games, a Read-In, 

           snacks, and camp mail.  Kids, you won’t want to miss 

            the fun!

Items that need to be sent to school (Parents – please mark your calendars for items that need to be brought to school on certain days.  Thanks in advance for your help)

Friday, May 17^th   - Send in $2.00 for your child to have a BBQ lunch with Mr. Dudley.  The $2.00 will go towards a hotdog lunch with chips, drink, and a cookie. The lunch will be on May 28^th but the money is due on May 17^th.  If your child doesn’t want a hotdog for lunch on the 28^th, he/she can bring a sack lunch from home.

Monday, May 20th- Please send in a white t-shirt that your child may tie-dye.  Include your child’s initials in permanent marker on the tag of t-shirt.  

Friday, May 24^th - Care packages* need to be sent to school. Students can also bring a blanket and a favorite book.

*Parents, your child’s care package should be about the size of a shoe box, wrapped and addressed as though it were really going through the mail.  You could even use stickers in place of postage stamps.  Please include the following items in your child’s package: a drink, a snack and a letter that tells your child how proud you of them with his/her accomplishments in first grade.   

Schedule of Events

Friday, May 17^th – BBQ lunch money ($2.00) due

Monday, May 20^th – White shirt needs to be sent to school for tie-dying.

Friday, May 24^th – Set up camp in classrooms, care packages need to be sent to school.  Students can also bring a blanket and a favorite book.  Field Day will be in the afternoon.

Tuesday, May 28^th – Activity Stations: students will rotate through first grade classrooms for camp activities and BBQ lunch with Mr. Dudley.  A sack lunch is needed if your child doesn’t want to eat a hotdog lunch.

Wednesday, May 29^th – Camp activities in the classroom

Thursday, May 30^th – Activity Stations: students will rotate through first grade classrooms for camp activities.

Friday, May 31^st – Camp Activities – Autographs and Good-byes. (Last day of school is a full day)
